ROSE flower

Rose is one of the most beautiful of all flowers. It is a symbol of fragrance and loveliness. Its name calls to mind pictures of the sweetbrier, or wild rose, the loveliest wild flower of the country roadsides. No other flower has been mentioned so often by the poets of all ages and all countries. In the language of flowers its blossoms have always been the symbol of love. The rose has even played its part in history. In England, when the Houses of York and Lancaster were fighting for power, they chose white and red roses respectively for their emblems. The flowers gave their name to the War of the Roses. Today the rose is the national flower of England. It is also the state flower of several states in the United States. The rose is not limited to any one country, however. Its many species and varieties can be found throughout the Northern Hemisphere. They will even grow in the mountain districts of the tropics. All present-day roses are descendants of wild roses. We may doubt this if we compare a full-flowered cultivated bloom with a five-petaled swamp or prairie rose. But many wild-rose species tend to bear double blooms—flowers with more than five petals. A skillful gardener can select a wild rose plant that shows an occasional double blossom, give it and its descendants expert care for several years, and produce plants that consistently bear handsome double flowers.

Until the 19th century all rose culture was of this type. Many species were popular for cultivation, including cabbage, damask, and French roses. The cabbage (Rom centifolia) is a large pink rose that grows wild in the Caucasus. It was cultivated in ancient Greece and Rome.  Later the French called it Flower experts recognize three main classes of cultivated roses. Members of the first class, sometimes called old roses, bloom once a year, usually in early summer. They include the yellow briers, damask roses, moss roses, and many climbers. The second kind of roses bloom in early summer and again in fall. The best-known members of this class are called perpetual roses or summer-and-autumn roses— are the hybrid perpetuals. Members of the third main class, the ever blooming hybrids, flower almost constantly during the growing season. These roses include floribundas, grandifloras, hybrid teas, and polyanthas.

Lake Toba: Batak culture and relaxing

Danau Toba, or Lake Toba as we know it, is the largest lake in Southeast Asia. It was created by the eruption of a super volcano 75 thousand years ago. It is still surrounded by the crater edge of that volcano, and in the middle of the lake, volcanic activity created Samosir an island as big as Singapore. Attached to that island is a small peninsula, with the village of Tuktuk on it. This is the tourist destination of the area, where we enjoy the cool air, a dive in the lake, the relaxed atmosphere, and the local Batak culture.

After the exciting bus and bemo ride to Parapat we meet Liberty. He tells us that the last ferry to Tuktuk leaves in an Hour. But not to worry, there is a small restaurant where we can eat something while Liberty tells us all about Tuktuk and his hotel Lekjon cottages. It appears that the ferry will drop us off at any hotel on Tuktuk we want, and since we like the leaflet of Lekjon, we decide to let us lead by Liberty.

In the dark the ferry brings us over lake Toba. It takes about half an hour during which we only see some lights and a small fire along the crater edge. The ferry stops at the bay next to the peninsula first, and then moves along the coastline to drop everybody at their desired destination. We see a lot of hotel names, but it is too difficult in the dark to see what they are like. Just in the middle of the peninsula is Lekjon, and we are easily convinced to at least spend one night here. We get a clean room, a warm shower, and a nice view for a low price, what else do we want?

Original name of iPhone 4S

Sejak diluncurkan pada Oktober tahun lalu, banyak spekulasi yang muncul atas huruf S di belakang nama iPhone 4S. Ada yang mengatakan bahwa huruf itu adalah singkatan dari speed atau kecepatan.

Namun banyak pula fan Apple yang yakin bahwa nama ponsel tersebut berarti iPhone For Steve, yaitu sebagai bentuk penghormatan pada pendiri Apple yang meninggal sehari setelah ponsel ini resmi diluncurkan.

CEO Apple Tim Cook akhirnya membuka kepada publik apa sebenarnya arti dari huruf S tersebut.

Cook mengatakan memang banyak yang menanyakan tata cara pemberian nama produk Apple yang sepertinya tidak beraturan. Contohnya saja pada produk tablet, yaitu setelah iPad 2, Apple malah menamakan produk selanjutnya The New iPad.

Cook menjelaskan penamaan di Apple biasanya merujuk pada perubahan besar yang ditanamkan pada produk tersebut, tetapi penamaan ini tidak memiliki struktur yang baku.

Di sisi lain, terkait Siri, Cook menjanjikan adanya upgrade pada aplikasi ini yang akan muncul beberapa bulan ke depan.

Warna-warni Danau Linow

Siapa bilang Sulawesi Utara hanya terkenal dengan pantai dan keindahan bawah lautnya? Provinsi ini juga kaya akan keindahan alam lainnya, salah satunya Danau Linow di Minahasa. Danau ini unik karena terlihat berwarna-warni.

Danau seluas 34 hektar ini merupakan lokasi favorit masyarakat setempat. Selain warna-warni danau yang indah, alam sekitarnya pun cantik. Burung-burung belibis (ada yang menyebutnya itik liar) terbang rendah sambil sesekali berenang di permukaan air.

Lalu apa yang membuat danau ini memiliki beberapa warna yang berbeda? Ternyata danau ini terbagi menjadi dua sisi. Salah satu sisi memiliki kandungan belerang yang tinggi, sementara sisi yang lain tidak. Kandungan belerang ini, ditambah dengan efek cahaya matahari mampu membuat danau seolah-olah memiliki warna yang berbeda.

Sejak tahun 2006 pihak swasta membangun taman di pinggir danau — dengan tiket masuk Rp 25.000 per orang. Harga tersebut sudah termasuk kopi dan kue kelapa yang disediakan pengelola. Taman pinggir danau sebagian besar terdiri dari rumput yang terawat rapi, tempat duduk-duduk, serta kafe. 

Sebuah jalan setapak dibangun di pinggiran bagi pengunjung yang ingin berjalan-jalan, maupun untuk mereka yang ingin berolahraga lari.

Para pengunjung biasanya duduk-duduk di pinggir danau sambil menikmati pemandangan Linow yang hijau kebiruan. Di sisi lain terlihat warna biru keputihan. Dari sisi lain warna danau terlihat berbeda, tergantung sudut pandang pemirsa.

Satwa lain yang juga menarik perhatian adalah serangga yang oleh masyarakat setempat disebut sayok atau komo. Serangga bersayap yang hidup di air ini juga sering ditangkap untuk dikonsumsi.

Di sekeliling danau ditumbuhi pohon cemara jarum dan bunga sepatu beraneka warna. Ada juga berbagai bunga lain yang saya tidak tahu namanya.

Satu peringatan, di pinggir danau sering ada gundukan lumpur panas, Anda sebaiknya menjauh. Selain itu, terkadang bau belerang juga tajam. Bila ada angin cukup kencang bau ini tercium dari kejauhan.

Di sisi kanan danau terdapat sebuah bangunan rusak yang tampaknya dimaksudkan sebagai Pusat Informasi Geotermal dan Geowisata Tomohon. Sebenarnya pembangunan kantor semacam itu adalah inisiatif yang bagus, sayangnya bangunan belum selesai dibangun, dan entah kenapa dibiarkan begitu saja.  

Danau Linow ini berada di Desa Lahendong, Tomohon. Bila ingin berkunjung ke danau ini paling ideal adalah menyewa mobil karena dapat mengunjungi beberapa objek wisata sekaligus. Bila ingin hemat, Anda dapat naik angkutan umum dari Terminal Tomohon, namun harus melanjutkan perjalanan dengan berjalan kaki sekitar 700 meter. 

Dari kota Manado hanya butuh waktu sekitar 45 menit untuk mencapai danau.

Di wilayah tersebut Anda juga beberapa lokasi menarik yang dapat disinggahi. Salah satunya adalah Woloan, di mana Anda dapat melihat pembuatan rumah panggung khas Minahasa. Selain itu ada pula Desa Pulutan, sentra industri gerabah.

Pangkas Kalori Dengan Dua Kebiasaan

Tak perlu repot-repot mendatangi tempat fitnes. Anda cukup dengan mengurangi waktu kebiasaan menonton TV dan makan lebih banyak buah, kalori bisa berkurang tanpa disadari.

Hasil ini didapatkan setelah peneliti merekrut 204 pasien berusia 21-61 tahun, kemudian membaginya menjadi empat kelompok.

Kelompok pertama diharuskan meningkatkan asupan buah dan sayuran, ditambah meningkatkan aktivitas fisik. Kelompok kedua harus mengurangi lemak dan kebiasaan bermalas-malasan. Kelompok ketiga harus mengurangi lemak dan meningkatkan aktivitas fisik, dan kelompok terakhir harus meningkatkan asupan buah dan memotong kebiasaan bermalas-malasan.

Peneliti menemukan orang yang makan buah dan sayur serta berhenti menyantap kripik kentang sambil bermalas-malasan di sofa lebih mampu mempertahankan berat badan. Sekitar 86 persen peserta mengakui mengalami penurunan berat badan setelah menerapkan pola hidup sehat tersebut.

LADY GAGA(L)

Seperti yang telah kita ketahui bersama, akhirnya manajemen Lady Gaga membatalkan konser di Indonesia karena faktor keamanan yang disebabkan oleh desakan pihak kepolisian dan berbagai organisasi masyarakat Islam garis keras yang menolak konser Lady Gaga — karena dianggap dapat merusak moral bangsa.

Kini setelah polemik berakhir, saatnya kita menilai beberapa dampak yang sudah terjadi dan akan terjadi:

Promotor sulit mendapat kepercayaan dari musisi dan band mancanegaraPembatalan konser Lady Gaga ini akan membuat para musisi dan band mancanegara berpikir dua kali sebelum mengadakan konser di Indonesia. Pengajuan proposal konser dari para promotor lokal kepada para agen booking (pihak ketiga antara promotor dan managemen artist yang mengakomodasi permintaan kedua belah pihak) kemungkinan akan berjalan alot.

Sejauh ini sudah satu penyanyi populer mancanegara saat ini dipastikan batal untuk konser di Indonesia pasca Gaga. Dan mungkin akan lebih banyak lagi kasus seperti ini ke depannya.  

Isu keamanan di Indonesia kembali mencuat di dunia internasional
Berita batalnya konser Lady Gaga sudah menjadi berita internasional dalam waktu singkat. Media-media besar seperti Time, BBC, Wall Street Journal hingga tabloid musik legendaris NME telah memuat beritanya. 

Pada beberapa tahun terakhir, isu keamanan di Indonesia yang sempat menjadi kekhawatiran publik internasional perlahan namun pasti akhirnya sirna. Hasilnya banyak musisi dan band yang mau melakukan konser di Indonesia.  Di paruh awal 2012 saja tercatat sudah puluhan musisi dan band mancanegara yang sudah tampil. Dan karena pembatalan konser Lady Gaga ini, Indonesia seperti kembali ke nol. Harus membangun lagi kepercayaan internasional.

All About Strawberry

A welcome sign

"Think rest and fresh" ... That is what the owner of "All-about-strawberry" restaurant wants for his customers to think when they arrived there. Located on Jl. Cihanjuang Km 2,5 No 17 Cimahi Bandung (you can get there through Cimahi or Ledeng), this place is not too bad for fun games and family gathering. Lets face it, there isn't anywhere decent in big city these days to take children out to be closer to the natures and get a different atmosphere. "Strawberry Picking" restaurant concept seems very popular these days which is a good idea and business.

Actually the strawberry field at All-about-strawberry is not so big. No wonder not much strawberry left on the field if about 3000 or 5000 a day customers came there.. But it is not the only things you can do at All-about-strawberry. There are some attractions, kid's outbound such as this big-balloon. This is another game you can find there.. They called it Tree-house, entry ticket Rp.15.000,- ($1.64 USD). Actually this tree-house is kinda cool but why need to pay if you can find another free games there. Yeah the balloon one is free.. and some other games but I didn't check on it.

Just another kid's adventure games; flying fox, even its not so high and takes about 10 seconds to touch the ground. But well its kid's lol.. Also spider web, wall climbing, walking on the line..

Oh there is also a factory outlet. the name of the factory outlet, Clothing and X’cessories Outlet (CX Outlet). Typical factory outlet in Bandung :) clothes and accessories (like its name) 

Actually there are several strawberry-picking places around Bandung (suburbs). Even the strawberry farm has existed for long time ago tho. Well done to Wayside whoever you are for making the effort and trying your hardest to keep Strawberry Farm alive.
